Chatting With: Datin Paduka Eina Azman, Brand Ambassador For MAGGI® CukupRasa, Actress, Entrepreneur & Food Enthusiast

Eina, your journey with MAGGI® started since 2019 as the Brand Ambassador for MAGGI® CukupRasa. What’s your motivation to be part of the Program Mentor Wanita Cukup Berani MAGGI® and how do you encourage your daughter to be brave just like you?

Cooking has always been a big part of my life and ever since I was a little girl, I love watching my grandmother and mom in the kitchen. However, since I was just a kid, I would always end up creating a huge mess in the kitchen every time I try to help them out as I would end up either breaking or spilling something (!). As a result, they would ‘ban’ me from entering the kitchen, but I’m an incredibly persistent person, so instead of being discouraged, I was instead motivated to continue on my love for cooking.

However, though I have a passion for cooking, I am not one with inherent talent that could cook up a tasty dish immediately. Aside from learning to cook from both my grandmother and mom, I would also go through YouTube channels looking for videos to watch. If there’s a recipe I wanted to try, I would imagine the process in my head and check with my mom for guidance and advice. Even if it was unsuccessful on my first try, I would never give up until I am absolutely pleased with the results. I believe that it is important for everyone to have the courage to fail and persistency to improve. Thus, it is with these principles that I’m honoured to have been appointed as MAGGI® CukupRasa’s Brand Ambassador since 2019.

Recently, I was offered the opportunity to be part of the Program Mentor Wanita Cukup Berani MAGGI® as a mentor. This programme is something I deeply connect with, as the main core idea is to encourage and inspire women all over Malaysia to have the courage to take the first step in exploring and trying new things. This idea, although it may seem easy is something really important as it requires self-confidence. I remember reading a poem that said, “our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that frightens us.” And this is so true, as you’ll never know what you’re capable of achieving, not just in cooking but in life as well if you never take the first step to try.

Even as a mother, I have always encouraged my daughter to ask questions freely and openly on anything that they don’t quite understand. This is to encourage her to be brave to speak her mind and that there is no wrong in seeking clarity. I believe that this is one of the the many principles that women need to embrace, having the courage to speak up, aligned with one’s values and principles. Recently, as a simple activity to encourage my children to be brave in their self-expression I recorded a video of them making Milo jelly which I’ve posted on Instagram and that process was a lot of fun for us!

What was one of the best advice that your mom ever gave you as your cooking tips?

My mom has been my pillar of strength and go-to-person when it comes to cooking and everything else in life. Whenever I wanted to test out a new recipe or even explore a new idea, I’d always ask my mom for her thoughts and feedback. She’s always my strongest critique and the most supportive person in my life.

My mom always reminded me to be creative and brave to try new ways and approaches in everything. I’ve applied this lesson in my cooking and through encouragement and motivation from her and other family members, I started posting my cooking videos a few years back on Instagram. When I first started, I really lacked confidence but through the support and encouragement from friends and fans alike, I was able to build up my courage and share my passion for cooking by creating more videos! In a nutshell, that is how I have managed to kick-start my cooking business ‘It’s Done by Eina Azman’ and through that received the offer to be the Ambassador for MAGGI® CukupRasa brand. Alhamdulillah, things have been really good and I have more than 60,000 fans on the official page for ‘It’s Done by Eina Azman’ now.

When you say the Program Mentor Wanita Cukup Berani MAGGI® has made you try new things, what were they and how did you convey this message to your friends and fans?

Being a mentor for Program Mentor Wanita Cukup Berani MAGGI® has made me step out of my comfort zone and explore new things. As I am a fairly new entrepreneur, my concern is the development of my mentees and if I am able to guide and add value to their businesses and lives. I decided to take up the challenge as a mentor for two simple reasons – mentorship is an unchartered territory for me and I know it will increase my self-confidence too! Additionally, through this role, I hope to inspire my mentee through my experiences above and beyond just cooking. I hope to be able to provide insights on operating a business and also help women discover that they are ‘cukup berani’ already as they are already assuming multiple roles as a wife, mother, daughter and also as a boss!

Ultimately, discovering and defining and our passion, our goals and our objectives in life is a life long journey. And it is important to remember to enjoy the process, as we move forward and grow to be bolder and tougher to take on new things. The sky is the limit!

Being a mentor of Program Mentor Wanita Cukup Berani MAGGI® which help women. Can you share what is this programme all about and what is the key message that Wanita Cukup Berani wants to bring to the women out there?

Program Mentor Wanita Cukup Berani MAGGI® is a partnership between MAGGI® and Women Will by Google Malaysia, which is a Grow With Google programme. This programme has two components which is firstly, the Bengkel Online Wanita Cukup Berani MAGGI® that has modules such as Building Awareness and Self-Confidence, Learning How to Run Your Business and Learning New Cooking Skills. These online workshops impart various core development and entrepreneurial skills such as how to tap into digital platforms or tools to enhance businesses efficiencies and expand market reach for one’s products and services. During the workshops, I took on the tasks to share with participants on ways that they can increase their self-confidence! I believe that by building one’s self-confidence, we are able to grow the courage we have to put in the effort and hardwork required to succeed. MAGGI® Chef, Chef Muluk also shared useful cooking tips with the participants.

Secondly, the next component of this programme is the one-to-one Mentorship Programme whereby three participants from more than 900 women who participated in the series of workshops held in September and October will be selected to receive a personal mentorship from me, Sis Sheila Rusly and Anne Idris.

With the success of these workshops, we hope this Program Mentor Wanita Cukup Berani MAGGI® can continue to inspire and encourage women along this journey.

If given a choice, is there anything you wish you would have done differently in life?

Even if I’m given a choice, I wouldn’t want to change any aspects of my life right now. Alhamdulillah, I am grateful because I have a beautiful family and a business that is thriving and growing. My next goal is to explore ways that I can continue to inspire others and also support them along the way and as such believe that this programme by MAGGI® is a great first step.

I wish to step out of my comfort zone and to master something new. In fact, I’ve made my pledge during the launch of the Program Mentor Wanita Cukup Berani MAGGI® – that is to be better to work harder and to not allow other people to affect me. I am also committed to reach out and help others as much as I can, women from the B40 communities have always had a special place in my heart and especially so when they have been impacted so deeply by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Together with MAGGI®, we want to upskill these B40 women so they have the confidence to step out of their comfort zone and try on something new, not just in cooking but in their daily lives, career or business! I would love to help them to build their self-confidence and skillset so they have the means to achieve their dreams.

My advice to women out there is never be afraid to try something new. Always, always, always, look for ways to learn new skills and knowledge, as this will be the first of many steps in your journey to build your self-confidence!
